Rare Gemstones
Gemstones are naturally occurring mineral forms called crystalline. Gemstones have
the most intense color of any other natural material on this planet. Gemstones span the entire
rainbow in color and have become infamous by the use of their names, like "Ruby Red" and "Emerald
Green." Gemstones are known for their beauty, value, and durability, which allows for their
passing from one generation to the next.
At Dublin Jewelers, some of our favorite rare gemstones are lesser-known ones:
 |
Tsavorite, a stone in the garnet
family, is known for its intense green color. Tsavorite shines in any setting, but is
especially gorgeous in platinum and white gold. |
 |
Alexandrite, which is of the
chrysoberyl mineral species, is color changing and can look reddish in incandescent light while
looking green in the daylight. It is a transparent stone, and it looks good in any
setting. |
 |
Sphene is its own mineral
species, and it is a gorgeous translucent yellowy orange. It can also be green or
brown. Sphene looks fabulous in yellow gold. |
 |
Spinel is another favorite of
ours. It can vary from transparent to opaque, and, when used in jewelry, it can be red,
pink, orange, blue, violet, or purple. This faceted stone is very versatile; it can be
set in any metal and still shine to the best of its ability. |
 |
Benitoite is its own mineral
species, and it is transparent. This stone can range from blue and violet-blue to
colorless or white. Pink benitoite is very rare and, thus, very
expensive. This gorgeous stone looks great in platinum and white gold. |
